Slow Down Summer- Fourth of July
How we can slow down, and enjoy the day & summer before it slips by! Invite slowness, being present, and
Summer is my favorite time of year- the time for plans, travelling, going to the beach, and spending time with loved ones. However, amongst the chaos- I notice it can fly by without even noticing. “Hustle culture” is so prevalent now adays & we pack our time with so much, we often are not present with what is in front of us. July fourth is roughly halfway through summer & I want you to use this time to reflect. Challenge yourself today, to follow these steps- or create your own that work for you, that will allow you to slow down and be more present. This can be a tool you use on any busy day, to slow down and calm your nervous system down.
Morning Moment: Grounding Before the Day
Choose an activity that will ground you, and allow you to take time for yourself before the day starts. This can look different for everyone, and it is up to you to find an activity that will ground you before the day. I like to start my day with a workout, some type of movement, getting coffee and journaling. Moving my body in the morning, helps me mentally for the rest day. I notice myself less agitated, happier, and noticing the positive more. Journaling by reflecting on gratitude, and affirmations, grounds me mentally for the day ahead
What is something you can do in the beginning of the day to ground you?
Midday Mindfulness: Present at the Party
Notice things that bring you gratitude:
Take a moment to note things that you are grateful for where you are at. This helps you be where your feet are and notice moments before they pass.
Be intentional with what you are doing
When you are talking to someone, put your phone away, and look them in the eye. Calm your mind, actually listen to someone, and be where you are. Same goes for a walk, a party- take note of what you are surrounded with.
Mindful plate building: No food rules
Be intentional as you pick foods, and slow down your eating. Often times we rush through, and do not even remember what we did. By paying attention to the food, eating and how you feel, you will feel more satisfied and happy.
Evening Reset: Reflect, Release, Receive
End the day with a moment of peace:
watch the sunset or fireworks and put your phone away - be in the moment before it slips away. I am guilty of wanting to capture everything, but need to take time to be unplugged as well.
Reflect- What did I enjoy today? What is one thing I want to remember from today?
Skincare- Take a moment to care for yourself at night and devote a few minutes to yourself. A moment of peace and independence can go a long way to slow down the day.
Final Thought: You Don’t Have to Earn Your Rest
As the day winds down, let this be your reminder that you do not have to earn your rest or justify your joy. You are allowed to simply be—present, full, and at peace—with nothing to make up for.
